A Legacy, Reimagined
Following Raquel Welch's passing, the brand was entering a defining moment. Her name and presence had become inseparable from its identity, and we needed to find a way forward that honored her legacy while allowing the brand to evolve.
At the same time, a major product innovation created an opportunity. FeatherLite introduced a significantly lighter fiber with a more flexible, breathable cap construction, designed to feel fresher, move more naturally and offer greater comfort.
The challenge was not simply to launch a new collection. It was to honor a legacy while creating the next chapter of the brand.
Lightness Needed to Be Seen
The story became one of freedom, movement and confidence with the glamour of Old Hollywood seen through a modern lens.
The name FeatherLite immediately suggested something to me. Lightness couldn't live only in the product story. I wanted you to see it.
The campaign drew inspiration from Raquel Welch's connection to Hollywood and the cinematic glamour of another era, but I didn't want nostalgia. I wanted to reinterpret that glamour through a modern woman who is confident, sensual and completely at ease with transformation.
There was a time when wearing a wig was something women often wanted to conceal. I saw an opportunity to change that narrative. Hair can be part of the transformation, just like an extraordinary dress, a beautiful pair of shoes, jewelry or makeup. It can change the way a woman sees herself and the way she enters a room.
Creating the World

Every scene was built around a character and a mood.

I selected wardrobe to complement each Hollywood and Raquel Welch-inspired story, sourced backgrounds and props, helped shape the lighting and atmosphere, and brought the individual elements together on set.
The balance was deliberate. I wanted sensuality without losing elegance, aspiration without losing relatability, and glamour without making the women feel untouchable.
From casting and styling through set design, photography and video, every detail needed to belong to the same world.
Beautiful, confident, cinematic and unmistakably Raquel.
The Image I Fought For
One image became the subject of many conversations.
The cover I selected showed movement, including flyaways that challenged the expectation that beauty and hair imagery should always look perfectly controlled. There was hesitation about using it.
But perfection wasn't the story.
FeatherLite was about movement.

I wanted someone looking at the cover to almost feel the lightness of the fiber before ever touching the product. The movement of the hair, including those imperfect flyaways, expressed exactly what made the collection different.
I believed strongly in the image and defended the choice through the approval process.
It became one of the campaign's most recognizable and attention-grabbing images.
My Role

• Brand Strategy
• Campaign Concept
• Photo Shoot Production
• Casting & Styling Direction
• Set & Prop Direction
• Photography Direction
• Video & Behind-the-Scenes Direction
• Image Curation
• Retouching Direction
• Print & Digital
I led the visual experience from concept through final execution, working closely with our hair designer and dear friend, Frank Campanella, photographer, Juan Algarin, my brilliant in-house creative team, Dania Gonzalez doing a wonderful job with every image retouch, Maria Arana putting all her talent in teaming up with me in creating elegant, organized and highly compelling page layouts and production partners to ensure that every expression of the campaign remained true to the original idea.
Following the shoot, I directed image selection and worked with the hair designer through detailed retouching reviews and final approvals.
My responsibility was not simply to create beautiful images.
It was to make sure every image told the same story.

Frank Campanella, the genius behind this collection, is the creator and hair designer. As the VP of Design and Production at HairUWear Inc., Frank brings a unique vision and product quality to the brand.

From an Idea to a Brand Experience
The visual language extended beyond the photo shoot into the complete campaign experience.
Photography, video, catalog, digital communications and launch materials were developed as parts of the same story, creating a recognizable new expression for the Raquel Welch brand.
The group composition paired with the oversized RAQUEL identity became an especially strong visual expression for the campaign and helped establish the look of this new chapter.

The Impact
The collection sold out.
The campaign received an exceptional response, and two years later, we continue to hear positive feedback about the imagery and creative direction.
More importantly, the work helped the Raquel Welch brand navigate an extraordinary transition. We were able to respect the legacy of the woman behind the name while demonstrating that the brand could continue to evolve, innovate and remain relevant.
The visual language created for the campaign helped give this new chapter a recognizable identity while supporting a successful product launch.
For me,
FeatherLite also reaffirmed something I have learned throughout my career:
Sometimes the detail people question most is the detail that makes the idea memorable...
Thank you for taking the time to read all the way to the end. 💛
