More Than Hair.... An identity full of personality.
Kim Kimble Hair needed a visual identity that felt as confident, modern and fashion-aware as the women it was created to speak to.
The opportunity was to celebrate textured hair and women of color in a way that felt elevated without becoming overly polished or predictable. The hair needed to be aspirational, but still have personality. Sophisticated, but never quiet.
I wanted the campaign to feel less like a traditional product presentation and more like a fashion story built around individuality, texture and self-expression.
The goal was simple:
make the hair desirable, but make the woman unforgettable.
Coils, Curves Silhouette & Full Confidence.
I wanted the campaign to celebrate texture rather than control it.
The curls, coils, waves and sleek silhouettes each needed their own personality, but the overall brand had to feel cohesive. Fashion became the bridge.
The women were styled to feel confident, sophisticated and a little unexpected. Strong poses, playful angles, beautiful skin, bold accessories and expressive hair gave the photography an editorial quality while keeping the women approachable.
There was sensuality, but it was never about showing more. It came from confidence, attitude and the way each woman occupied the frame.
Hair became part of the fashion statement, not simply the product being photographed.
Imagery concept:
Polished, Never Tamed
For the photography, I wanted to create contrast between refinement and attitude.
We used clean styling and sophisticated fashion, but the compositions were not meant to feel static. Angles, movement, expression and lighting gave the images energy.
I directed the lighting to change with the personality of the shot. Some images are crisp and direct. Others use backlight, silhouette or dramatic shadow to make the hair texture almost sculptural.
The intention was always the same:
Let the texture speak.
Let the woman capture the audience.
Every Angle Had an Attitude.
The creative direction ALWAYS begins well before shoot day.
I selected models who could bring different personalities and beauty expressions to the campaign, worked with the hair team to push the styling in a more interesting and fashion-forward direction, and partnered closely with the celebrity hair stylist and photographer to develop the visual approach.
Before production, I created clear creative outlines defining the mood, lighting, poses, wardrobe direction, backgrounds and key shots we needed to capture.
On set, I directed the photography, lighting effects, model movement, angles and overall mood while continuing to refine the compositions as the images came to life.
I also produced the shoot from beginning to end, including talent and crew bookings, wardrobe selection, production logistics and even catering!
Planning ahead always provides me with structure on the day of the shoot.
Everything is in place, giving us ample room to create. All the details are meticulously organized and easily accessible, including the meeting location and time, the starting model, the wardrobe, and the makeup and hairstyle for each shot.
Color That Knows How to Enter a Room.
I didn't want the campaign to rely only on beautiful hair and neutral beauty photography.
The hairpieces are easy, fun, and expressive!
Color became another expression of personality.
Bold yellow, cobalt blue, turquoise, red and graphic patterns gave the campaign a more contemporary energy and created opportunities for the imagery to live across digital, social and packaging without disappearing into the category.
The backgrounds were designed to support the hair, not compete with it.
Bold enough to stop you. Smart enough to let the product lead.
From Set to Shelf to Screen.
The campaign was only one part of the brand experience.
I extended the creative direction into the packaging, website, digital presentation and brand style guide so that the visual language would remain consistent across every touchpoint.
The packaging needed to feel fashion-forward and distinguished, while being cost effective. The website translated the campaign into a digital environment where photography, typography, color and product information worked together as one experience.
in the short period of time while this product was developed, I also created the brand style guide to establish clear standards for photography, color, typography, graphic language and overall brand expression.
A strong campaign attracts attention. A strong system makes the brand recognizable.
